Most prospective students have concerns about money. Coming to university may be your first experience away from home, and it's natural to wonder how you will manage. We understand your financial concerns and we will provide some information on sources of funding. Your main costs as a student will be tuition and living expenses. As a student you will find that careful financial planning is essential. Many students fund their studies through a combination of scholarships, bursaries, loans, help from parents, sponsorship by companies, and through part-time and vacation work. UCT offers financial help and incentives in a number of ways, depending on a student's talents and needs:
Entrance Scholarships are offered to candidates who have achieved excellent results in their final examinations. There are a limited number of scholarships and you do not apply for these scholarships, they are awarded to the students. For information on scholarships offered in the Engineering & the Built Environment Faculty, contact the Faculty Office on 021 650 4194.
The University has committed significant funds for financial aid packages to support financially needy students. If you require financial assistance, you must apply on the appropriate section of the main UCT application form. Your application must be received before 30 September of the year before you intend to begin your studies.
