US and Chinese climate action is small step in right direction

THE US and Chinese presidents announced last week that:

• The US is to cut net greenhouse gas emissions 26%-28% below 2005 levels by 2025; and

• China is to reach a peak of CO² emissions in about 2030, with the intention to try to peak earlier and to increase the non-fossil fuel share of all energy to about 20% by 2030
