1963 ChemEng graduate wins a global water awards
In November last year, John Bewsey, a 1963 Chemical Engineering graduate, beat five other short listed technology processes to take the prize for the best Water Management and Supply solution at the prestigious annual Institute of Chemical Engineers awards, held in the UK. In the process called KNeW, the polluted water from mine or other industry is neutralised, filtered to remove coarse particles and precipitated heavy metals, then pumped through an ion exchange battery to remove all the dissolved ions leaving behind water of any designed quality. For the last ten years, John visits the ChemEng department to talk to the first year students to inspire and motivate the students about the world of work.
