Gary Finkelstein in a CeBER Lab
A switchboard error put Gary Finkelstein, a Grade 10 Herzlia High school learner, in touch with Dr Rob van Hille, a senior research officer in the Centre for Bioprocess Engineering Research (CeBER).
Last year Finkelstein won a gold medal at the Eskom Expo for young scientists and he was selected to represent South Africa at the International Expo which was held in July in Bratislava. Looking for some guidance on his project, Finkelstein had called the University and had been put through to Van Hille by mistake. On talking to Finkelstein, Van Hille soon realised that the project Finkelstein was working on, aligned closely with some of his own research, and it was through this chance meeting, that he mentored Finkelstein through the development of his science expo project.
