New multi-disciplinary postgraduate programme in Space Studies

In 2014, a new multi-disciplinary African postgraduate programme in space studies will be offered in the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment at the University of Cape Town.
Space technology and space applications are used to such an extent that they are now part of the critical infrastructure of the modern information society. Space applications are also a key contributor to sustainable development in areas such a food and water security, weather prediction, climate change monitoring, environment resource management, disaster management, search-and-rescue, financial transactions, telemedicine and tele-education.
The African space arena is evolving rapidly, with a number of countries having recently established space agencies, or considering doing so in the near future. There is an urgent need to develop human capital in this domain on the continent. The University of Cape Town, therefore, plans to introduce a new Master
